What this app is: Cruelty Scan is a barcode-scanning app that shows ingredient and cruelty-free information about products, sourced from Open Food Facts (a third-party, open, public product database) plus a small hand-curated watchlist we maintain.
What data we collect today: Cruelty Scan does not have user accounts and does not operate a server of its own.
What we don't do: we don't sell data (we don't have any to sell), we don't require sign-up to use the app, and we don't show ads.
Children's privacy: the app has no accounts today, so we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. This changes the moment Family Mode / child accounts ship — at that point this policy will be updated and the app will implement COPPA-compliant (US) and equivalent EU/UK verifiable parental consent before collecting any data tied to a child's account.
Your choices: since everything is local, you control this data directly via the in-app "Clear" actions, or by uninstalling the app.
Changes: this is a living document. Once accounts or any backend (planned: Firebase) ship, this policy will be rewritten to cover account data collected, retention, deletion/export rights (GDPR/CCPA), data hosting, and any third-party processors involved.
Acceptance: by using Cruelty Scan, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

Accuracy disclaimer: product data is crowdsourced and can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong; brand ownership changes can make status information stale between updates; we do not independently verify every entry. Verify anything safety-critical against the physical packaging or a professional.
Acceptable use: don't use the app to violate any law, disrupt or abuse the app or the third-party services it relies on, or (once community features ship) post false, defamatory, or misleading claims about a company or product.
No accounts yet: this version does not require or offer accounts. Once accounts ship, these terms will be updated to cover registration, termination, and user-generated content, including a moderation and takedown policy before any crowdsourced claims go live to other users.
Intellectual property: the app's own code, design, and the ingredient watchlist's original summaries are ours. Product data and imagery from Open Food Facts remain subject to their own Open Database License.
Disclaimer of warranties: the app is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from use of the app, including decisions made based on its content.
Changes: we may update these terms as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
